Abstract

The intensification of tropical timber trade regulated by CITES, together with ongoing forest cover loss in the Amazon, calls for comprehensive assessments of regulated woody species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the taxonomic, dendrological, and conservation status of CITES-listed species present in the Botanical Garden of the National Agrarian University of the Selva (UNAS). A descriptive-integrative approach was applied, including botanical collection, herbarium preparation, morphological characterization, and taxonomic validation using APG IV, GBIF, POWO, and the Catalogue of Life, along with verification against CITES and IUCN frameworks. A total of 545 individuals representing 135 species, 106 genera, and 41 families were recorded; three species (Dipteryx ferrea, Swietenia macrophylla, and Cedrela odorata) are included in Appendix II (2.2%). Differences in distribution, conservation status, and uses were identified. It is concluded that this update provides a key baseline for traceability, conservation, and management, highlighting the need for taxonomic harmonization and monitoring.
